Science Links
The spirit of exploration is alive and well in Oregon. Only now, it’s underwater. Oregon’s five marine reserve sites are areas in the ocean dedicated to conservation and scientific research. In the reserves all ocean development and removal of marine life is prohibited. Management and scientific monitoring of the sites is overseen by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW).

With the help of our vast network of advocates, nature enthusiasts, and partners, we inspire and connect people to nature through a variety of programs that are grounded in science and learning.
Friends of Otter Rock Marine Reserve was born out of the need to bring together independent, volunteer stewardship of the Otter Rock Marine Reserve under one organization to engage more effectively with the public and stakeholders in advocacy, stewardship, and protection of Otter Rock Marine Reserve.
HRAP operates a seasonal Rocky Shore Interpreter Program from February through November, to educate visitors on the local intertidal and seabird ecology, encourage the practice of proper tidepool etiquette, and educate visitors about the state and federal laws and agencies responsible for managing Haystack Rock.
The Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS) is the Regional Association of the national Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) in the Pacific Northwest, primarily Washington and Oregon. NANOOS hosts a visualization system, called NVS, which provides a number of different tailored Apps for meeting community needs.
The Oregon Marine Reserve Partnership is a partnership of the five nonprofit organizations that support the Oregon Marine Reserves. The Partership supports scientific research, community engagement, and effective communications across Oregon’s five marine reserves to advance understanding and protection of our natural spaces.
